Taiwan Trip Day 1

Date: 21st of June 2010

My sis and I took a cab to Kuala Lumpur LCCT. To be honest, this is the first time I stepped my feet on LCCT. It was a small airport meant for domestic flight or short distance flight. It resembles London Luton Airport. After we had breakfast at Old Town, we went to check-in. Seriously, I don't think web check-in or check-in on the spot make any difference, it doesn't make your check-in problem any much quicker, except that you have to print extra on your own. haha. Anyway, we reached Taiwan as expected, 2.45pm, temperature out there, 34'C, =.='''''.

The operator at the tourist information counter was really helpful. We got our 国民旅游卡done, got our directions clear too. But frankly speaking, we didn't use that card at all, but no harm getting one as souvenir since it's F.O.C. right? hehe. Then we turned left, walked along the corridor and found 3 mobile network operators sitting next to each other. After much consideration, we got ChungHwa Telecom. Since we only needed it to confirm our bookings, we decided to take the package with 300TWD. After that we head to the other way and found the counters selling bus ticket to TaiPei City. We took 国光客运, which cost us 125TWD per person. Journey was one hour long and by the time we reached TaiPei city, it was raining quite heavily. Get into Taipei Main Station to get a 悠游卡. It's actually an easycard, just like Touch N Go or Oyster Card. But advantages of using it include, 20% discount on every journey, avoid the hassles of queueing up to get Day Ticket every day and also 100TWD deposit is refundable when you return the card to the counter without any damage. I would say it's worth getting one for those tourists out there who plan to stay in Taipei for some time since MRT is the main public transport there.

From Taipei Main Station, we took a metro and get off at Taipower Building MRT and checked in into our hostel, Green Hostel. It rained so heavily that by the time we got to our hostel and into our room, we're all soaked with water. Luckily the stuffs inside our luggage were still in good shape! After bathing and had enough rest in our room, it was almost 6.30pm. It's dinner time! We were "lucky" as the weather forecast for that week was all rainy day but we were really lucky because the raining period is around 4pm -6pm. So we can choose to go back to hostel during that period of time and still go to the night market after that. If you come to Taiwan and never been to those night market, it is really a waste!! So the first two night market that we went to were 公馆夜市 and 师大夜市.

公馆夜市 is situated near to NTU. By metro, it's only one station away from Taipower Building MRT, which is the Gong guang MRT. We had 蠔煎,甜不辣,芒果冰,车轮饼。Then we met with my friend, ah G who is studying in NTU now. He brought us to the most famous drink there, 青蛙撞奶! Absolutely awesome!XD I hardly had anything better than this after that. After chit chatting for a while, he got back to his hostel as he had to prepare for his end-term exam and as for us, the night was still young. We got to 师大夜市. Before we went back to our hostel, we bought KimBap at the 7-11 shop just outside our hostel as tomorrow's breakfast. One thing that I fell in love with the 7-11( more known as "Seven" ) in Taiwan is the food that they sell. They had delicious kimbap, sushi, hotdog, tea flavoured egg and salad there! Very different from the one we have in Malaysia. You ought to try those out if you happen to go to Taiwan and to the 7-11 shops there!
